Deputy Andy Ruark interacted with inmate Christopher Helphenstine multiple times in April 2017, including offering him drinks and checking on his condition. Helphenstine later died in custody. A lawsuit alleged deliberate indifference to Helphenstine’s medical needs, but the court found Ruark’s actions did not demonstrate knowledge of an unjustifiably high risk of harm.
