Deputy John Doe 1 – El Paso County Sheriff’s Office

In June 2020, a transgender woman, Juniper McGinn, filed a lawsuit alleging that during her detention at the El Paso County jail, she was subjected to a humiliating cross-gender body-cavity search. McGinn requested a female officer to perform the search, but jail policy required a male officer to conduct the lower body search. The lawsuit claims that five deputies watched McGinn shower and undergo the search, with four deputies laughing during the process. The incident led to significant emotional distress for McGinn. The lawsuit is ongoing, and specific disciplinary actions against the involved deputies have not been disclosed.
