Deputy Preston Hines – Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office

Deputy Hines was charged with a third-degree felony for a scheme to defraud after being paid over $1,000 for overtime assignments he did not work. Investigations revealed that since April 2023, Hines was assigned 10 overtime details but often arrived late and left early, sometimes missing several hours of the assignments. He was placed on administrative leave on September 25, 2023, and subsequently terminated from the Sheriff’s Office.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
