Deputy R.T. Davis faced multiple lawsuits alleging excessive force and unlawful arrests. In March 2018, Thomas F. Smith accused Davis of causing bodily harm and using excessive force during an arrest, despite Smith informing Davis of his prosthetic leg. In March 2019, Ernest and Anita Owens alleged that Davis assaulted them during a traffic incident, resulting in permanent injuries. Both lawsuits sought compensatory and punitive damages.
