In 2011, Deputy Scott Womack conducted an illegal strip search of a teenage girl during a traffic stop, alleging he needed to check for tattoos and piercings. The search lasted about five minutes in snowy, dark conditions. The girl later discovered she had no outstanding warrant, contradicting Womack’s claim. Womack was fired from the department for misconduct and was under investigation for at least two other incidents. A lawsuit was filed against him and the sheriff’s office for failing to properly train, supervise, and discipline him.
