In April 2021, Deputy Stipanovic was involved in an incident where Stephen Michael Wittkamper, an unarmed and mentally distressed individual, was tased in the back and restrained face down, leading to his death. A lawsuit alleges excessive force and wrongful death, with the court denying a motion to dismiss in February 2024, allowing the case to proceed.
