In August 2019, Deputy Troy Haymore rear-ended a stopped vehicle at nearly 70 mph while responding to a domestic violence call. The collision resulted in a negligence lawsuit against him and Cochise County. An investigation revealed Haymore was traveling at about 107 mph five seconds before impact and had decreased to 92 mph two seconds before impact. He was cited for failing to control speed to avoid an accident and completed a defensive driving school program. Additionally, he received a letter of reprimand from his lieutenant. The lawsuit filed by the victim sought $125,000 in damages for physical injuries, pain and suffering, medical expenses, vehicle damage, and loss of well-being.
