Deputy Unnamed – Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office

In November 2022, an unnamed deputy was involved in an incident where inmate Frederick Fisk, experiencing a mental health episode, was handcuffed and being escorted when he stopped walking. Surveillance footage showed two deputies sweeping Fisk’s legs out from under him, causing him to fall face-first onto the concrete floor, resulting in a pool of blood. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deemed the takedown unjustified, attributing it to inexperience and poor judgment. The county agreed to a $500,000 settlement with Fisk in June 2023. The deputies involved received remedial training, with one suspended without pay and a sergeant receiving a written reprimand and removal as an arrest control instructor.
