On February 12, 2023, Officer Derek Braxton was involved in an off-duty altercation at Baja’s Beach House nightclub, leading to his arrest on assault, battery, and disorderly conduct charges. He was terminated from TPD shortly after the incident. In November 2023, a jury found Braxton not guilty on all charges. Following the acquittal, Braxton sought reinstatement with the department.
