In January 2020, Officer Dionne Holliday was involved in an incident where she and another officer found a 5-year-old boy who had wandered away from East Silver Spring Elementary School. Body-camera footage showed Holliday yelling at the child, pushing him into a patrol car while he was crying, and later placing handcuffs on him at the school. The incident led to disciplinary actions against Holliday, though specific details were not publicly disclosed. The child’s family filed a lawsuit against Holliday, the other officer, the Montgomery County Police Department, and the Montgomery County Board of Education, which was settled in August 2022 for $275,000. Holliday remained employed with the department following the incident.
