Between January 2010 and March 2018, the Falmouth Police Department received nine complaints regarding excessive force, assault and battery, or use of force. Internal affairs investigations sustained one of these complaints, resulting in verbal counseling. Additionally, from 2011 to 2014, there were nine complaints of harassment, twenty-three complaints of discourtesy, and sixteen complaints of conduct unbecoming an officer. These statistics indicate that while complaints were filed, only a fraction were sustained, leading to disciplinary actions such as verbal counseling. The department has faced scrutiny over its handling of these complaints and the effectiveness of its internal investigations.
