Disciplinary Actions Overview – Kahului Police Department

Over the past decade, the Kahului Police Department has faced several serious misconduct cases involving its officers. Notably, in 2015, Officer Anthony Maldonado unlawfully seized money from a civilian and conspired to obstruct justice, leading to a 24-month prison sentence in 2018. Other officers, including Sergeant Walter Ahuna and Officer Chase Keliipaakaua, were also implicated in related obstruction plots. Additionally, in 2021, Officer Manuel Sorcy alleged that he was ‘kidnapped and interrogated’ by members of the department’s Criminal Intelligence Unit, resulting in a lawsuit and his subsequent transfer to another police department. These incidents highlight issues of corruption, abuse of power, and internal misconduct within the department.
