Douglas McFall – Jerome County Sheriff’s Office

In 2019, former Jerome County Sheriff Douglas McFall was sentenced to three years of probation for misuse of public funds. He pleaded guilty to using a Costco gift certificate intended for the Sheriff’s Office for personal use, amounting to $79. The court dismissed two felony grand theft charges as part of a plea agreement. McFall was ordered to pay restitution to Jerome County, fined $1,500, and required to complete 100 hours of community service. The incident brought embarrassment to the Sheriff’s Office and eroded public trust in the department.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
