In May 2000, two former girlfriends brought harassment charges against Chief of Police Doyle Hammonds. On October 15, 2001, he pleaded guilty to two counts of ‘harassing communications.’ Subsequently, on November 15, 2001, the Priceville town council voted 4-2 to remove him from his position. Hammonds contested his termination, but a Morgan County judge upheld the firing, stating the mayor had the right to cast the deciding vote on the town commission. Hammonds had been with the department for over 21 years and needed 25 to retire.
