Following an investigation by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and other agencies, Barbee was terminated from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office on November 6, 2023. On August 13, 2024, he pleaded guilty to official oppression, a class 1 misdemeanor, and was sentenced to two years of unsupervised probation, two days in jail, 36 hours of community service, and court costs totaling $199.50.
