In 2005, Police Chief Edward Drew intervened in the appointment process for background investigator positions after his daughter, Officer Jennifer Vadnais, was not selected. He contacted Deputy Chief Paul Juliano to discuss the selection process, which led to the cancellation of one of the appointments. Although Vadnais did not receive the position, Drew’s actions were deemed an attempt to use his official position to secure an unwarranted privilege for his daughter. In 2008, Drew was fined $1,000 by the State Ethics Commission for violating conflict of interest laws.
