In May 2019, Officer Eric Thurmond was accused of sexually assaulting a woman. He was charged with criminal sexual assault and unlawful restraint. In September 2021, Thurmond pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct as part of a plea deal, which required him to resign from the Rockford Police Department, perform 50 hours of community service, pay a fine, and prohibited him from serving as a police officer in Illinois.
