In August 2018, Lt. Ernest Stanley, a 10-year veteran of the Bowie Police Department, attempted to pull over a vehicle at Elder Oaks Boulevard and Excalibur Road. After the driver fled the scene, Stanley fired his service weapon three times at the moving vehicle, hitting it once. He was indicted in November 2019 and, in December 2021, was convicted of misconduct in office. Stanley was suspended with pay during the investigation and is awaiting sentencing.
