In Clayton, Missouri, former St. Louis County police officer Matthew McCulloch, 40, was sentenced to five years of probation for firing into the air and making threats during a trick-or-treating event. McCulloch pleaded guilty in January to six counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of making terrorist threats, and one count of unlawful use of a weapon. Several charges were dismissed as part of his plea. In October 2023, during the event in a St. Louis suburb, McCulloch began harassing people and fired into the air a dozen times after someone pushed him to the ground. No one was injured, but participants were traumatized. McCulloch was no longer employed by the police department after the incident.
