In January 2021, former CBP officer Jose Rosalio Fuentes was sentenced to 30 months in prison for accepting a $6,000 bribe to allow an illegal alien, whom he knew to be a convicted felon, into the United States. In early 2018, while assigned to canine duty at the Nogales Port of Entry, Fuentes facilitated the illegal entry by pretending to swipe the individual’s identification and then waving them through the pedestrian gate. He later met with the individual to receive the cash bribe. Fuentes was also fined $6,000 and prohibited from holding a position of trust with the United States in the future.
