In January 2016, Officer Philip Brailsford shot and killed Daniel Shaver, an unarmed man, at a La Quinta Inn. Shaver was crawling towards officers and reached towards his waistline when Brailsford fired. Brailsford was charged with murder and subsequently fired from the department.
