In February 2018, Officer Kennedy was arrested and charged with first-degree rape after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in his custody. The incident occurred when Kennedy arrested a woman for shoplifting, and during transport to the jail, he allegedly stopped at a location off Highway 431 and raped her while she was handcuffed. Kennedy was terminated from the Phenix City Police Department following the allegations.
