Officer Christman was one of the officers involved in the September 2015 incident where Nicholas Pletnikoff, a 28-year-old autistic man, was forcibly detained and pepper-sprayed. Christman, who knew Pletnikoff from high school, did not inform his fellow officers about Pletnikoff’s autism during the encounter. The incident resulted in a lawsuit alleging negligence and excessive force, leading to a $265,000 settlement by the City of Kodiak in August 2018.
