In August 2023, while off duty, Village Public Safety Officer Austin Brady was arrested on felony domestic violence assault charges in Kake, Alaska. He was accused of strangling a woman and damaging her home. During the incident, Brady admitted to being intoxicated and possessing a pistol. He faced felony second- and third-degree assault charges, along with misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief and misconduct involving weapons. Following the charges, the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska terminated his employment. Brady remained in custody at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center as of September 2023.
