Create And Track Police Department History
On July 7, 2017, Officer Bryan Smith was involved in the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Gabriel Sage Barnes following a high-speed chase. The incident led to a federal lawsuit filed by Barnes’ family, alleging that Smith ‘executed’ the teenager by shooting him approximately eight times. The lawsuit was later dropped after the family reviewed body and dash camera footage of the shooting. The Madison County District Attorney’s office deemed the shooting justified.
