In November 2023, Sheriff Aaron Acree pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree official misconduct and two counts of menacing. One misconduct charge involved obtaining a free room at Lake Barkley State Park under the pretense of a drug investigation, which was actually used for personal purposes. The menacing charges related to an incident where Acree assaulted a woman arrested for burglarizing his home, including pushing her to the floor, grabbing her hair, and threatening to kill her. He was sentenced to 24 months of probation and fined $500. Despite these convictions, Acree remained in office as the charges were misdemeanors.
