Commander Aaron Minor reported Assistant Chief Richard Slavin’s homophobic remarks in May 2019. Subsequently, Minor faced an internal investigation alleging he lacked integrity during the probe into Slavin’s comments. In October 2019, Minor was terminated without the opportunity to appeal, leading him to file a federal lawsuit against the city and police chief, alleging retaliatory firing and violation of his civil rights.
