In February 2015, Officer Adrian Alaniz was involved in the fatal shooting of Antonio Zambrano-Montes, a 35-year-old orchard worker. Zambrano-Montes was reportedly throwing rocks at officers when Alaniz and two other officers fired 17 times, resulting in his death. The incident was captured on cellphone video, leading to public outcry and protests. A $25 million federal lawsuit was filed against the city of Pasco, alleging excessive force.
