In 2019, Officer Cronin was terminated for failing to perform patrol duties during multiple shifts, remaining at the police station instead. An investigation revealed that during a four-month period, he did not leave headquarters during 15 shifts and had limited patrol time during 54 other shifts. The Connecticut Labor Department Board of Mediation and Arbitration later ruled that his termination was not for just cause, citing procedural flaws in the investigation, and ordered his reinstatement with full back pay. The town has appealed this decision. ([newstimes.com](https://www.newstimes.com/news/article/middlebury-fired-police-officers-labor-dispute-20011460.php?utm_source=openai)
