In January 2013, Sebastian Prevot was stopped by Houston police for a minor traffic violation. When his wife, Annika Lewis, began recording the encounter, officers allegedly assaulted her, confiscated her phone, and removed its memory card. Prevot was charged with evading arrest and required medical treatment for injuries sustained during the incident. The case raised concerns about police misconduct and the treatment of citizens recording police actions.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
