In June 2023, Deputy Anthony Kiel posted a Christian Bible verse on Facebook, leading to a written complaint. Supervisors initially found no policy violation, but during his December 2023 performance review, Kiel received a less favorable raise, allegedly due to the post. In March 2024, after posting a comedy video about the Nineteenth Amendment, supervisors reprimanded him, stating he violated departmental policy. Kiel resigned before potential termination, later filing a lawsuit alleging religious discrimination and retaliation. The department denied these claims, citing Kiel’s attitude and inability to work with others as the primary issues.
