In February 2010, Officer Belvin Lee Sherrill was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual conduct with an inmate after two female inmates alleged sexual assault. Sherrill pleaded guilty in 2012 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended to 18 months, with 30 months of probation. The state paid settlements of $100,000 and $50,000 to the victims, along with $124,998 in legal defense costs.
