It is important to note that The Police chief never formally released the names of these Officers
Â
The Phoenix Police Department has suspended three officers who, in 2024, assaulted and used a Taser on Tyron McAlpin, a deaf Black man with cerebral palsy. Interim Police Chief Michael Sullivan announced 24-hour unpaid suspensions for the officers involved, along with de-escalation training for two of them. The officers confronted McAlpin in response to a disturbance call at a store, mistakenly identifying him as the suspect. Body camera footage revealed unjustified aggression towards McAlpin, leading to a lawsuit against the city. Community representatives condemned the officers’ actions, while the police association criticized the suspensions, alleging they resulted from public pressure and biased media coverage. The Guardian
