In November 2005, Undersheriff Bill Cunningham was placed on paid administrative leave and resigned a week later after being accused of improperly profiting from the purchase of a county-owned vehicle at a public auction. He pleaded guilty to a felony count of misconduct of a public officer, received a suspended sentence, and was ordered to pay $4,675 in fees, fines, and restitution.
