In May 2019, Officer Billy Sawyer participated in warrantless drug dog searches of units in a subsidized public housing complex without obtaining supervisors’ approval. Consequently, he was suspended for 10 hours without pay. The City of Longmont settled with four residents for over $200,000 due to these unauthorized searches.
