In 2019, Officer Garcia was placed on administrative leave following allegations of a sexual relationship with a minor between 2017 and 2018. He resigned from the department and was indicted on 28 felony counts, including sexual conduct with a minor and sexual exploitation of a minor. In February 2020, his peace officer certification was permanently revoked by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board. As of May 2020, he was awaiting trial on these charges.
