In April 2020, Deputy Bobby Chancellor was implicated in a lawsuit filed by inmate Bobby Joe Poynter, who alleged that Chancellor, along with Deputy Claxton, used excessive force. Poynter claimed that after being maced by Claxton, Chancellor punched him and, with Claxton, placed him in a chokehold and beat him for about five minutes.
