In 2014 or 2015, while serving as Deputy Chief of the Hartford Police Department, Brad Vail was recorded using derogatory and obscene language referring to female law enforcement colleagues. The video surfaced during his hiring process as Barre’s police chief in 2022. Vail acknowledged the unprofessional nature of his remarks and received performance counseling. The Barre City Manager chose not to review the video during the hiring process.
