In August 2010, former deputy Brandon Balthrop was charged with two counts of sexual battery, one count of indecent exposure, one count of kidnapping, and one count of first-degree rape by instrumentation. The charges involved alleged sexual assaults of three women over a three-year period, including two women he stopped for traffic violations and a co-worker from the Duncan Police Department. Balthrop was terminated after refusing to cooperate with the investigation, including walking out on a polygraph test. If convicted on all charges, he faced a potential life sentence without parole.
