In 2012, Officer Brandon Jones was involved in an incident where he slapped the side of a detainee’s head, made derogatory remarks, and punched the detainee multiple times in the face and neck while the detainee was handcuffed. The Utica Police Department’s Professional Standards Unit found that Jones committed an egregious assault and lied about the incident to investigators. As a result, Jones was terminated from the department.
