On November 20, 2017, Officer Bishop, along with other deputies, conducted an illegal search on private property. Approximately an hour later, Bishop returned with colleagues and allegedly assaulted the property owner. The assault included pepper-spraying the individual at close range, body-slamming them, causing a cracked rib, and smashing their face into the driveway, resulting in significant injuries. Bishop reportedly ordered paramedics to administer a high dose of ketamine, leading to the victim’s loss of consciousness. Following the incident, Bishop resigned from the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office and later took a position as a school resource officer. The victim has pursued legal action to obtain body and dash camera footage of the incident.
