In March 2020, Officer Brett Hankison participated in a raid on Breonna Taylor’s apartment, during which he fired multiple shots through a covered window and door. None of his bullets struck Taylor, but his actions were deemed to have violated her civil rights by using excessive force. In November 2024, Hankison was convicted on federal charges for these violations and faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
