In January 2020, Trooper Brian North fatally shot 19-year-old Mubarak Soulemane after a high-speed chase. North fired seven shots through the closed car window, claiming he believed Soulemane had a knife. In April 2022, North was charged with first-degree manslaughter with a firearm.
