Former Police Chief Brigit Clary was found to have violated Federal Way Police Department’s nepotism and overtime policies by approving overtime for her husband, also a lieutenant, between January 2015 and November 2016. An investigation concluded she was untruthful about her knowledge of these policies. Facing potential termination, she resigned and was later hired by Richland Police Department in April 2017. In 2023, it was revealed that her decision-making as Richland’s chief may have been compromised due to concerns over the release of her past misconduct records.
