In November 2015, Officer Brinelle Nabors was accused of using excessive force against a 14-year-old student at Washington Park High School. Nabors allegedly punched the student in the face and slammed him against lockers during an arrest on suspicion of drug possession. The City of Racine settled a federal lawsuit filed by the student for $400,000 in 2016. Nabors faced criminal charges, including misconduct in public office, battery, and disorderly conduct. He was acquitted of all charges in January 2019 but had been on paid administrative leave since the incident, collecting over $160,000 during that period.
