On April 29, 2013, during a vehicle stop conducted by Officer Mark Minnick, passenger Michael Strain objected to an unauthorized search. Officer Bryan Bourbeau responded by striking Strain in the right temple with a nightstick or flashlight, resulting in injuries including broken vertebrae. Strain was charged with resisting law enforcement, but the charge was later dropped. Strain subsequently filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force and other claims against Bourbeau and Minnick.
