Captain Wright, a supervisor within the Hobbs Police Department, was alleged to have used racist comments and practiced discriminatory policing. He was also accused of failing to address the use of racial slurs by other officers and of retaliating against officers who reported discrimination. Wright’s actions were part of the allegations in the 2017 lawsuit that concluded with a $1.4 million settlement in 2021.
