In 2018, Sheriff Carl Suta faced multiple allegations of misconduct. He was charged with misdemeanor official misconduct for distributing confidential investigative materials to a father involved in a child protective case. Additionally, he faced a misdemeanor domestic violence charge for allegedly kicking his son between January and February 2017. As part of a plea agreement, Suta agreed to resign from his position by June 1, 2018, pay a $1,000 fine, complete 40 hours of counseling, and serve 24 hours in jail or three days of house arrest. He also agreed not to contest any actions taken by the Montana Public Safety Officer Standards and Training (POST) as a result of these cases.
