Deputy Sheriff Carlos Oblitas was terminated on December 1, 2020, allegedly due to his race and protected complaints about racial discrimination. The termination followed a complaint filed on September 24, 2020, by Deputy Eorll, which led to an investigation into Oblitas’s conduct. The Civil Service Commission concluded that the Sheriff’s Office lacked just cause for termination and ordered his reinstatement on January 13, 2021. Oblitas filed a lawsuit alleging racial discrimination and retaliation.
