In 2009, Officer Bennett conspired with fellow officer Jessie Alan Fuller to conduct unlawful traffic stops on Interstate 65, during which they stole cash from motorists, violating their Fourth Amendment rights. Bennett admitted to four specific thefts in May and June 2009, taking between $100 and $200 per victim. He also attempted to obstruct justice by providing false information during the investigation. On January 22, 2013, Bennett was sentenced to 37 months in prison, two years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $500 in restitution.
